How to recognize child abuse and neglect
Everyone has a role in protecting children. Abuse and neglect are not always obvious, but there are warning signs you shouldn't ignore.
Look for unexplained injuries, frequent bruising, or a child who seems afraid of going home or being around certain individuals. Notice behavioral changes, such as withdrawal, anxiety, aggression, or sudden shifts in personality.
Signs of neglect may include poor hygiene, hunger, lack of proper clothing, untreated medical issues, or frequent school absences. A child may also appear consistently tired or without supervision.
It's important to watch for patterns over time, not just isolated incidents. If something doesn't seem right, trust your instincts and speak up. taking action could make all the difference in a child's life.
types of child abuse
Abuse is actions or behaviors that intentionally harm, mistreat, or exploit another person. It can occur in various forms and affects people of all ages, but children and vulnerable individuals are especially at risk. Abuse can have long term physical, emotional and psychological affects. There are six main types of abuse; with physical, emotional, sexual and neglect being the four that affects children.

Physical abuse-Some signs of physical abuse include hitting, slapping, kicking, shaking(especially in infants and young children), pinching, hair pulling, throwing, pushing and using objects to cause harm.

Emotional abuse-Yelling, insulting, name calling, manipulation, public embarrassment, threats, isolation, etc.

Sexual abuse-Unwanted touching, exposure to sexual acts or materials, grooming, etc.

Neglect-Some examples include; physical neglect, emotional neglect, medical neglect, educational neglect and supervisory neglect
